Subject, Region, and Time Metadata

All entries are given subject metadata to help categorize the material. At a minimum, entries fall into at least one "major" subject category, such as Arts or Religion and Beliefs. All entries are also indexed to one or more subjects to further categorize them. A complete list of these subjects can be viewed by selecting the Index option from the main page navigation.

All entries are given Region or Country metadata to help categorize them. It is not unusual for a single entry to be indexed to more than one region or country. A complete listing can be viewed on the Advanced Search page, in the Region and Country drop down menus.

All entries are given Time metadata to help categorize them. They may be indexed to a specific century if that is clear, or to a broad time period. It is not unusual for a single entry to be indexed to more than one time period. A complete list of time periods can be viewed on the Advanced Search page, in the Time dropdown menu.
